Did you know? Vladimir is a rescue kitty!
When we were in our last year of college, deep in the pit of our last round of finals, Madison needed a kitty to love. She had been keeping an eye on all of the shelter kitties and was watching all of the local listings.
On a study break, I somehow stumbled across the epic cats vs. cucumbers youtube video. In between fits of laughter at these cats and their encounters with cucumbers, I said, “okay, we can get a cat… but it’s a today-only-deal!”
Madison didn’t need a day. She only needed a few minutes. In fact, she had already been talking to who had kittens that were “shelter bound” if they weren’t adopted soon. Their mother had abandoned them and they needed new homes. So, before I knew it, we were on our way, with newly purchased cat food and a litter box to go and pick up a kitty.
We came home with Vladimir that night. While a little frustrated that I had walked right into Madison’s trap, I admittedly fell in love with this tiny, white kitten and our family got just a little bit bigger.
While many states saw a spike in pet adoption and fostering amid the COVID-19 Pandemic, there are financial concerns looming as unemployment is expected to reach an all-time peak this summer, ultimately leaving Americans with very tight budgets. As a result, there are fears of a surge in shelter ‘returns’ in the coming months due to financial strain.
