We loved our time at the Ghana Make a Difference home. We wanted to give a quick tour of the whole complex!
When you first walk in, you see the gatekeepers and the bus. They haul the children all over the place for field trips (to the beach, the jungle, to church, and into the city).
The main building houses all of the kids. It also contains the office, kitchen, the dining hall, and an attached volunteer house. The facilities are able to hold around 60 kids at their max capacity.
The yard is where all the fun happens. Basketball, soccer, volleyball, and even seatbelt slack lines (we had to track the materials down in the market haha). At nights they have movie nights with a projector and a sheet (we watched the old school Ninja Turtles when we were there – Theo’s choice.)
Right now, they hold school in the library and the dining hall. The new school is still “under construction”. But once it is operational, they will not only be able to take their kids, but other kids from the nearby village that have never had the chance to learn.
There are 4 classrooms in the new school, and facilities to help with all kids – even those with special needs such as wheelchair accessibility.
Here are a few pictures of the kitchen and the volunteer house. The organization is always looking for donations – check their website for a list of their current needs.
We stayed in the back of the complex at the volunteer apartments – when there are volunteers that are interested in staying and helping for extended periods of time or have a bigger group or families.
This is one of the boys rooms – cubbies, beds, and messy set of clothes!
They have also built a home for children with special needs. Often times these kids are abandoned or excluded from their villages. Many of them are left to fend for themselves on the street. Here these children are taken care of, and LOVED.
Ghana Make A Difference is a truly amazing place where children and staff thrive in an environment filled with support, opportunities, acceptance and love.
