Today started off as all epic days should – with a dip in a hot springs. The night before we tried to soak during the northern light show, but Theo wasn’t having. So, this round, we left him with some baby-sitters! Thanks Jace and Giddi!
On our way out of the hot springs area we stopped to see a few of the locals.
I told Madison that if we EVER got a horse, that it would have to be an Icelandic horse.
We drove straight to Geysir. There really is so much to see in the Golden Circle.
Pretty much it is the Iceland equivalent of Old Faithful. The main geyser in the area actually would erupt more often as Old Faithful – probably every 3-5 minutes! We stayed and watched it do its thing a few times before we walked around to see some of the smaller steam vents and geysers.
We took a break from all of the walking at stopped on these frozen benches. As you can imagine we didn’t stay sitting long!
For the last bit of sunlight we stopped at Gulfoss. The waterfalls in Iceland are something else. Especially in winter. The ice formations around them are incredible. Isn’t it funny how we, as humans, are just captivated by water going over a ledge? Cracks me up.
Iceland is the land of eternal sunrise and sunsets. The sun stays so low in the sky, the light is always so beautiful.
The day ended as all epic days should, with ICE CREAM (yes even in the cold, that is our ideal day). We had heard about this epic ice cream place called Efstidalur. The ice-cream shop is right in the barn! I was a pretty epic couple of scoops for sure.
